Penny’s involvement as a Director at Foxlake has kept her busy over the winter as the team have developed the site significantly following the success and demand for wakeboarding in the East Lothian and Scottish community.
We have with the fantastic assistance of Social Investment Scotland through the Scottish Investment Fund (half loan, half grant) been awarded £200k which helped us excavate the lake to double its size for a second cable as well as developing Europe’s first Ropes Adventure Course over water. ‘Foxfall’ is a unique first for renown high rope course designers RCD, has been opened in July to add to the growing opportunities for our adventure site.
With grant funding of £40k from Viridor Credits we added a second System 2.0 cable and obstacles on the extended lake doubling our capacity , whilst providing a training cable for our youngsters and beginners.
So far summer 2013 has been fantastic with our first cable competition where we saw over 30 youngsters aged 8-16 years compete in the event.
Further support has been achieved through a grant for 3 years from The Robertson Trust to support our Activities Manager to help us develop our community programme which is already extensive with partnerships growing not only in East Lothian but also many youth groups coming down regularly from Edinburgh.
Bringing this new sport to Scotland has been an exciting opportunity for Penny to be part of and along with other Directors they hope to see the growth of this sport through further Foxlake developments across Scotland.
