South East Sports Facility Project
We undertook the South East Sports Facilities Project (SESFP) club survey during the period November 2006 – May 2007. The aim of the survey was to help inform the SESFP, about the issues facing pitch playing sports clubs in the city, in delivering an Action Plan for pitch development across Edinburgh and involved:
- Initially sending it to football clubs in Edinburgh with a follow-up survey distributed to rugby clubs at the end of December 2006.
- A further extension of the survey in March 2007 included a distribution to hockey clubs.
- Additional work mapping pitches in Edinburgh (and club use of those pitches) which contributed to the updating of the city’s pitch strategy.
- The development of a strong multi sport partnership, including the Scottish Football Association, Scottish Rugby Union, Scottish Hockey Union working with City of Edinburgh Council resulting in the SESFP who now act as advisors to the City Council on all matters relating to pitch provision and maintenance. A key part of our role with the SESFP has been to identify and develop community club locations.
